let me start this post with a physics joke...I do hope I can make you laugh so here goes nothing...
Q: What is the name of the first electricity detective?
A: Sherlock Ohms
I can see you laughing your heart out right now...Here goes another one...

Two atoms were walking across a road when one of them said, "I think I lost an electron!" "Really!" the other replied, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I 'm absolutely positive."
Funny? I want to extend my warmest greetings to all of you who had the guts to explore this amazing blog...This was specially designed to tell you about how we enjoyed our 2-week venture with our physics friend, Mr.Gary white. We have here compilations of what we felt while we were chatting with a real life physicist. At first, I thought that physicists are sort of ideal professions and that they do not really exist. I was wrong. They really do exist and Mr. White testifies to this fact. I felt sort of a euphoric atmosphere every time I went to the adopaphysicist.org site. It was as if I am also a player in their league of scientific enthusiasts. I learned a lot from Mr. white especially how to be a good physics student. I have learned to idolize him as a science fanatic and practitioner. This experience was indeed rewarding! So please explore this blog and I hope that you will gain as much inspiration as I did. Keep waiting for my new posts.
P.S. I shall soon be posting Mr. white's profile for you to get to know him better and keep posted with our own profiles as well. SEE YAH SOON!
P.P.S.-Thanks to mikka for the nice pic!

So what is physics?
Not physical, like anatomical or reproduction.
Not physic, like the garden.
But physics.
For me it is wow.
Electricity and upthrust.
Ultrasonic and Apollo.
There’s a computer in it,
And flight and force
And meaning.
Meaning.
What does it mean?
How does it move?
What does it matter?
Movement and matter,
That’s physics for me.
For me it means science.
Schools and exams,
Sums and ungraded.
A slow sinking feeling
Like I’m lost and uncertain.
Like I’m falling without a parachute
Or I’m tangled in the trees.
But there’s some people here
To help us. To show us
What is physics.
There’s Newton and Mrs Matthews,
Heisenburg, Einstein and Moh.
There’s even Thermoman
(Who we think is a superhero
Who swallowed a thermometer).
They can talk to us about gravity,
About energy and uncertainty.
But what about Hiroshima?
I wonder what they’d say.
In amongst the particles,
The reason and the chaos,
We remember Hiroshima.
A pause, a breath, a breeze.
To think about what is physics?
Physics is quantum
Push and pull,
Moon and stars,
Bats and balls.
It’s light, like lightbulbs.
(There’s a light turning on).
And lasers and lifts
(I wish this tower had a lift).
It’s contact and communication.
It’s universal understanding.
Some understanding of our universe,
For You and me.

MR. GARY WHITE
Occupation: Physicist, father , scientist extraordinaire
BIOGRAPHY:
Gary White received his Ph.D. in nuclear theory at Texas A & M University (TAMU) in 1986, and became interested in ion beams and lithography during a postdoctoral appointment in 1991. Recently, his interests have also migrated towards pedagogy, especially the use of science research as a teaching tool. Over the past 14 years, in addition to teaching mathematics at TAMU, he has taught physics and astronomy at Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU), being awarded Outstanding Teacher by the NSU Alumni Association in 1996.
As SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma advisor at Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU), he guided the chapter to a significant increase in activity in recent years, including several SPS Undergraduate Research Awards and many outreach projects. In 1998, he was elected Society of Physics Students' Zone 10 Councilor and eventually, President of the National SPS Council.
Dr. White has served as a curriculum reviewer for the National Science Foundation and a reviewer for American Institute of Physics publications, and in 1999 was appointed to the nine-member national Advisory Committee on Physics Education for the American Institute of Physics. He has published articles in Physical Review, Annals of Physics, The American Journal of Physics and The College Mathematics Journal. In June 2001, White joined the American Institute of Physics (AIP) as Director of SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honor Society.
