Physicists are respectable people who are truly gifted. They were endowed with intelligence that's quite remarkable and amusing. Respectable, I say, because it really takes a lot of patience and determination in studying those confusing physics concepts ( perhaps, that thing only applies to people like I) and yet they do it with great enjoyment and fun. They are like machines with memory capacities of great amounts and amazing calculating capabilities.
I once believed that it's like REALLY hard for someone like myself (a mere student) to be talking to physicists. I feel that they might humiliate me because I know only a few of what they have already mastered. It's like they would say "You have no right to talk to me, you weakling!" However, I forgot that humility is still present in them. They still have their feet on the ground. It was proven to me by Dr. Gary White, our friend physicist. He was also a mathematics teacher (which was what I liked most about him), making me look up to him more. He is a very busy man, I should say, for he's got the brain that is really in big demand nowadays. He is even generous because he willingly shares almost everything that he knows about what we ask of him. Talking about being nice, he's unquestionably one that you can say has gentlemanly attitude. He's one topnotch physicist.
When I read his profile, I was eager to choose him as our adopt-a-physicist man. Not only because he's fond of mathematics, but also because I believe he would be able to help us in many ways, specifically in our research project. I asked him so, and he replied with information more than what we needed (how nice of him). It's just that I feel sorry for myself for I was only able to post a question when the project was about to end. Therefore, I was not able to ask some more follow - up questions. However, I'm grateful enough for what he has left for us.
It was a great experience, being able to talk to a physicist through this interactive project and learning from a physicist like Dr. Gary White himself. Though it was only for a short time, I still enjoyed it. I know we would be hearing more of Dr. Gary White from news reports about our developing technology. I'm expecting him to contribute something to the society that will surely be of great relevance. The time was short, but it's a worthwhile experience that is hard to forget. Thanks a lot to Dr. Gary White. He's the best.

I remember weeks ago when our connection with our physicist was cut off. For that program was made to last for only 2 weeks.
Really, it was my first time to interact with a physicist other than my teachers. I've got to ask him some questions about his personal side. I've enumerated my questions and I'm glad that he answered all of them. I'm also happy to hear and learn from him his way of teaching his students.
During that two week period, I can say that Mr. White was really busy for many other schools were also communicating with him. But I can say that he is a great man. As I read his profile, I learned that he had several achievements in different fields of physics. An example is his broad knowledge and works in nuclear physics.
I believe that Mr. Gary White had other many things to say but really time was too short to permit it. All I can say is he's cool. There's more of him than meets the eye.

let me start this post with a physics joke...I do hope I can make you laugh so here goes nothing...
Q: What is the name of the first electricity detective?
A: Sherlock Ohms
I can see you laughing your heart out right now...Here goes another one...

Two atoms were walking across a road when one of them said, "I think I lost an electron!" "Really!" the other replied, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I 'm absolutely positive."
Funny? I want to extend my warmest greetings to all of you who had the guts to explore this amazing blog...This was specially designed to tell you about how we enjoyed our 2-week venture with our physics friend, Mr.Gary white. We have here compilations of what we felt while we were chatting with a real life physicist. At first, I thought that physicists are sort of ideal professions and that they do not really exist. I was wrong. They really do exist and Mr. White testifies to this fact. I felt sort of a euphoric atmosphere every time I went to the adopaphysicist.org site. It was as if I am also a player in their league of scientific enthusiasts. I learned a lot from Mr. white especially how to be a good physics student. I have learned to idolize him as a science fanatic and practitioner. This experience was indeed rewarding! So please explore this blog and I hope that you will gain as much inspiration as I did. Keep waiting for my new posts.
P.S. I shall soon be posting Mr. white's profile for you to get to know him better and keep posted with our own profiles as well. SEE YAH SOON!
P.P.S.-Thanks to mikka for the nice pic!

So what is physics?
Not physical, like anatomical or reproduction.
Not physic, like the garden.
But physics.
For me it is wow.
Electricity and upthrust.
Ultrasonic and Apollo.
There’s a computer in it,
And flight and force
And meaning.
Meaning.
What does it mean?
How does it move?
What does it matter?
Movement and matter,
That’s physics for me.
For me it means science.
Schools and exams,
Sums and ungraded.
A slow sinking feeling
Like I’m lost and uncertain.
Like I’m falling without a parachute
Or I’m tangled in the trees.
But there’s some people here
To help us. To show us
What is physics.
There’s Newton and Mrs Matthews,
Heisenburg, Einstein and Moh.
There’s even Thermoman
(Who we think is a superhero
Who swallowed a thermometer).
They can talk to us about gravity,
About energy and uncertainty.
But what about Hiroshima?
I wonder what they’d say.
In amongst the particles,
The reason and the chaos,
We remember Hiroshima.
A pause, a breath, a breeze.
To think about what is physics?
Physics is quantum
Push and pull,
Moon and stars,
Bats and balls.
It’s light, like lightbulbs.
(There’s a light turning on).
And lasers and lifts
(I wish this tower had a lift).
It’s contact and communication.
It’s universal understanding.
Some understanding of our universe,
For You and me.

MR. GARY WHITE
Occupation: Physicist, father , scientist extraordinaire
BIOGRAPHY:
Gary White received his Ph.D. in nuclear theory at Texas A & M University (TAMU) in 1986, and became interested in ion beams and lithography during a postdoctoral appointment in 1991. Recently, his interests have also migrated towards pedagogy, especially the use of science research as a teaching tool. Over the past 14 years, in addition to teaching mathematics at TAMU, he has taught physics and astronomy at Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU), being awarded Outstanding Teacher by the NSU Alumni Association in 1996.
As SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma advisor at Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU), he guided the chapter to a significant increase in activity in recent years, including several SPS Undergraduate Research Awards and many outreach projects. In 1998, he was elected Society of Physics Students' Zone 10 Councilor and eventually, President of the National SPS Council.
Dr. White has served as a curriculum reviewer for the National Science Foundation and a reviewer for American Institute of Physics publications, and in 1999 was appointed to the nine-member national Advisory Committee on Physics Education for the American Institute of Physics. He has published articles in Physical Review, Annals of Physics, The American Journal of Physics and The College Mathematics Journal. In June 2001, White joined the American Institute of Physics (AIP) as Director of SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honor Society.
